15 Years of EnPak: Still Swimming
“Imagine you’re drowning. And someone hands you a baby.” –Jim Gaffigan
Comedian Jim Gaffigan’s quote refers to raising five children, but he may well have been describing what it’s like to run a small business for 15 years. What worked brilliantly yesterday stops working today. What seemed irrelevant last year becomes essential overnight. Like parenting, it demands constant vigilance—watching, adapting, sacrificing, and somehow staying one step ahead of whatever comes next.
EnPak Launched from a Lunchtime Conversation
The idea for EnPak surfaced over lunch 15 years ago, when our Founder, Marlene Betances, and her colleagues discussed a persistent headache in the medical device industry: what to do with inventory that needed rework. Most companies lacked the time or staff to handle it themselves. When Marlene floated a solution, the response was immediate: “Go for it!” That conversation sparked EnPak LLC—a company built to give medical device manufacturers exactly what they needed: responsive, reliable rework services for labeling and packaging.

EnPak launched with momentum. Marlene found eager partners, secured industry support, and transformed a raw space into a working facility through sheer determination and sweat equity. Everything was ready. Except the customers. Days became weeks. Weeks became months. The work didn’t come. It would have been easy to walk away—chalk it up as an expensive lesson. But that didn’t account for Marlene’s entrepreneurial grit or her commitment to creating meaningful jobs in the community.
Persistence Pays Off and EnPak Grows its MedTech Operations Support Services
Late in 2011, EnPak finally landed its first customer. Others followed. The business grew, expanding beyond rework to offer the full suite of logistics and operations support services that MedTech companies and start-ups need including: consulting, kit management, packaging, labeling, fulfillment, recall management, returns processing, and warehousing.

It’s been an incredible journey—perhaps the most challenging of Marlene’s life, but also one of the most rewarding. This milestone isn’t about celebration as much as gratitude: for the trust that customers placed in EnPak, the relationships forged along the way, and the people who make the work matter.
Still Adapting and Swimming
That Gaffigan quote still resonates because the reality hasn’t changed: running a business means constantly adjusting to stay afloat. But Marlene wouldn’t trade it. To every customer who took a chance on EnPak, every partner who believed in the vision, and every team member who makes it possible: the gratitude runs deep. Here’s to the journey—the challenging, rewarding, never-quite-finished work of building something that matters.
